The Learn Forward team is excited to be participating in the annual Careers in Student Affairs Month. We think this month-long initiative, dedicated to the celebration of careers in student affairs, education and awareness of the profession, and engagement with professional associations and peers in the field, is a wonderful way to encourage and promote our profession.
The theme of this year’s campaign is “Student Affairs is…” Throughout the month of October, the Learn Forward blog will feature a variety of student affairs professionals with diverse backgrounds and positions. We will celebrate coordinators, assistant directors, associate directors, directors, and VPs all within a wide range of areas within student affairs including career development, student engagement and leadership, technology, residence life, and special events.
What we are most excited to share with you this month are the individual stories of these professionals. It seems there is not always a clear-cut career path to follow in student affairs, so it is our hope these individual stories will serve as a guide for those just starting their career in student affairs as well as provide encouragement to seasoned professionals in the field.
Through these stories we will explore each individual’s career path with all its predictable – and in some cases unpredictable – twists and turns! As education professionals who value growth and learning, we will also examine how some of our more seasoned professionals engage in professional development, in addition to asking them everyone’s favorite interview question – where do you see yourself in 5-10 years? Finally, we will gain nuggets of wisdom as they share their advice for new and mid-level student affairs professionals.
We are excited about the month ahead and hope you’ll join us in the celebration by engaging with us here at the Learn Forward blog, as well as in the social media stratosphere using the Careers In Student Affairs Month hashtag - #CSAM15.
